Leaves From My Family Tree

Haddix

My grandfather's sister, Ida E. Trump, married Archie G. Haddix. They didn't have any children, but they did rear Archie's brother's children. Ida died in 1934, and over the years my mother's family lost touch with Archie and his nephews.

In 1997 I displayed some of Ida's Crazy Quilt blocks at a local quilt show.

Yvonne Haddix was reading the show brochure, and excitedly said "Gene, your Aunt Ida is in here!" She immediately looked me up in the telephone book -- coincidently we lived just about a mile apart -- and we began a friendship which led to my volunteering at Milwaukie Center and to my deepening interest in quilting.

I arranged a luncheon with Gene Haddix and my mom. By the end of lunch, Mom and Gene remembered each other from when they were children visiting Aunt Anna's farm.

Yvonne Haddix died in June, 2001, and Eugene Haddix died in July, 2001. They had two children.
