1884	Wallowa Valley, Oregon		Dean's Maternal grandfather, Samuel Amey, settled at Crow Creek.

1894	Joseph, Wallowa, Oregon		Dean's Father, Edgar Anderson Pollock, settled in Joseph. Edgar had come west to visit his widowed sister, Mrs. Anna Leslie, who had settled in Joseph some years earlier. Edgar purchased the local newspaper, the Silver Lake Harold. He handled every position except "printer's devil" -- he hired Edith Mabel Amey to do that job. The rest, as they say, is history.

1901-1911			Lived in various places, including Colorado and Iowa, before returning to Joseph, Oregon.

1922	Salem, Marion, OR		Graduated Willamette University. He remained active in affairs of the school, at one point serving as president of the Alumni Assoc; he wrote and illustrated many of the university's catalogues, brochures, and programs.

1922	Redmond, Deschutes, OR		Taught school for a year between Willamette University and getting married.

29 June 1923	Tacoma, Pierce, WA		Married Mildred "Pip" Knox Brown who was also a graduate of Willamette University. She taught school in Central Point, Oregon during the year between graduation and marriage. PHOTOS

1923	Chicago, Cook, IL		Moved to Chicago to attend Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Dean was also an instructor at the Academy of Fine Arts for several years.

24 April 1924	Chicago, Cook, IL		Born: son, Richard Wayne Pollock. Dick was born at "Grant Hospital of Chicago". The family lived at 434 N. Parkside at the time.

10 Feb 1928	Oak Park, Cook, IL		Born: daughter, Muriel Brown Pollock

17 Aug 1929			The spelling on son Richard's birth ctf was corrected. The address given was "619 N. Menard", but there was no city given.

1936	Portland, Multnomah, OR		Began working as an artist and writer at Gerber Advertising Agency. Gerber Knives

9 May 1936	Lyons, Burt, NE		Died: sister, Lucile Agnes Pollock Snethen. She died as a bride of only one year while giving birth to her only child.

1950	Portland, Multnomah, OR		Wrote My Autobituary, a 20-page essay full of wonderful stories about his life and his Family History.

June, 1950	Portland, Multnomah, OR		Dean's book, Joseph, Chief of the Nez Perce was published. The book eventually was in nearly every school library in the state, as well as school libraries throughout the US. After publication, he did author-tours to grade schools where he gave talks to the children. PHOTO The book has recently been re-released.

26 Aug 1954	Portland, Multnomah, OR	Died: mother, Edith Mabel Amey Pollock

26 April 1965	Longview, Cowlitz, WA	Son, Richard Wayne, won certificate for excellence in journalism in the annual Sigma Delta Chi-Allied Newspaper Comptition, First Place - Editorials.

20 Jan 1967	Polynesia	Dean and Pip left on a 42-day cruise to Bora Bora, Papeete, Rarotonga, Auckland, Sydney, Noumea, Suva, Niuafo'ou, Pago Pago, and Honolulu aboard Matson Lines' SS Mariposa.

22 April 1971	Portland, Multnomah, Oregon	Died: Dean Pollock The Oregonian referred to him as "A veteran Portland advertising writer, artist, author and book illustrator".

25 May, 1977	Longview, Cowlitz, WA	Son, Richard Wayne, named Associate Editor of The Daily News

6 June 1980	Portland, Multnomah, OR	Died: sister, Mary Elizabeth Pollock Taylor

13 April 1981	Longview, Cowlitz, WA	Son, Richard Wayne, part of Pulitzer Prize-winning team at The Daily News for ongoing coverage of an event. Dick wrote several of the ten articles submitted about the eruption of Mt. St. Helens.

24 Dec 1985	Longview, Cowlitz, WA	Died: son, Richard Wayne Pollock

20 Feb 1991	Portland, Multnomah, OR	Died: wife, Mildred "Pip" Knox Brown Pollock
